practice makes perfect

"Practice Makes... Well, Something":

It's a funny old universe, isn't it? And in this funny old universe, there's an age-old phrase that goes something like this: "Practice makes perfect."

But does it, now? Does it really? I mean, let's face it, if you practice falling off a unicycle, you're just going to get better and better at falling off a unicycle. Not exactly what one might call "perfect."

So what's the deal? Does practice actually make perfect? Well, that depends on what you mean by "perfect." If by "perfect" you mean "better than you were before," then sure, practice can help with that. But if by "perfect" you mean "the absolute best at something, no matter what," well... I wouldn't hold your breath.

Because, let's face it, the universe is full of surprises.

The point is, practice is great and all, but don't expect it to make you perfect. Just expect it to make you... better. Or at least, a little bit better. Or maybe just a tiny bit better. Or maybe not better at all, but at least you tried, right?"
